The Statistical Office in Warszawa is pleased to present the eighteenth edition of the “Statistical Yearbook of Mazowieckie Voivodship”. The Yearbook includes information characterising living conditions of society and the state of the economy of the voivodship.

Detailed statistical data on voivodship have been grouped in 23 chapters, preceded by general notes explaining terminology, methodology and scope of information used in the publication. Three review tables containing major data on voivodship in years 2000, 2005, 2010 and 2012–2016 and selected data on voivodship compared with the rest of the country as well as its subregions in 2016 are presented at the beginning of the publication.

Presented statistical information has been enriched with maps and charts.

In the present edition of the Yearbook, the previous thematic scope of the “Health care and social welfare” chapter has been widened by basic information on family support, including new forms of family support and parental benefit. In the chapter “Science and technology. Information society” data on research and development activity for the first time was given in accordance with the methodological recommendations of the “Frascati Manual” (2015). Moreover in the “Regional Accounts” chapter, data for 2010–2014 were changed in relation to those published in the previous edition as a consequence of revision in the annual national accounts, due to the standard excessive deficit procedure (the so-called fiscal notification).

In connection with the revision of the NUTS 2016 classification, which will take effect from 1 January 2018, an annex containing selected data on the regions and subregions of the Mazowieckie voivodship is included.

Survey results of public statistics as well as non-statistical sources of information have been used while compiling the publication.
