The Warsaw metropolitan area is one of the most dynamically developing regions in Europe. This visible change is the result of, among other things, the active involvement of local governments cocreating the metropolis in implementing integrated activities and projects to achieve the common goal of creating a strong and modern socio-economic centre. The need to strengthen strategic management at the functional area level, the introduction of a supralocal development strategy, and the development and adoption of the National Urban Policy 2030 became a turning point in strengthening cooperation between the signatories of the metropolitan agreement and the formulation of joint programming documents, such as the “Development Strategy for the Warsaw Metropolitan Area until 2040.” Another important element is the development of a favourable legal framework, ensuring the eff ective operation of the metropolis, among other things, in the areas of public transport, local government fi nancing, socio-economic development, climate and environmental protection, and spatial planning. The Warsaw metropolitan area encompasses 79 local government units, which corresponds to the NUTS2 statistical unit – region warszawski stołeczny (RWS). Due to the functional connections between its constituent territorial units, it can be treated as an integrated organism in which social and economic changes occurring in one area impact others. The Statistical Office in Warszawa, responding to the changing reality and the needs of external recipients, has changed the title of the previously published publication “Region warszawski stołeczny” to “Warsaw Metropolitan Area,” which encompasses all gminas and powiats of the region. Therefore, in this year’s edition, these terms will be used interchangeably. The current publication contains all previously published information and has been additionally enriched with contextual and strategic indicators monitoring the Warsaw Metropolitan Area Development Strategy, as well as new cartograms and tabular data related to these indicators. The development of individual sections was based on the results of offi cial statistics research and data from the Marshal’s Offi ce of Mazowieckie Voivodship in Warszawa regarding geodetic area and directions of use. By presenting You with another edition of the publication on the Warsaw metropolitan area, we hope that it will continue to be a source of interesting and useful information for all those interested in the development Warszawa, December It is new edition "Warszawski stołeczny region in 2023" Evaluate the study: |
