X anniversary of mazowieckie voivodship

Summary:
This publication was prepared on the occasion of tenth anniversary of creation of the mazowieckie voivodship. In graphically form supplemented by tables, there have been tried to present the rich characteristics of all areas of social and economy life — development tendencies and changes that have occurred. Complex phenomenon describing the situation of the voivodship were shown in the background of the country.
Results of statistical surveys of public statistics as well as data obtained from other non-statistical sources were chosen and systematized in the following thematic groups: organizational state of the voivodship, demographic situation, economic activity, finance of local self-government entities, material and living conditions of population, social and technical infrastructure. The individual parts were annotated with analytical comment.
In general, the spatial range of the publication covers voivodship as a total. However in view of the fact that it is strongly internally differentiated, selected data on the level of subregions, powiats, gminas, cities and villages, was also taken into analysis.
The data contained in the publication concern mainly the years 1999—2008. Scale of changes are presented in tables based on data for the beginning and ending year. Non-comparability of data, because of changes in the methodology of the surveys, classification changes or changes of powiat borders were serious problems in achieving full data retrospection. Therefore, in cases where it was not possible to achieve comparable conditions, it was decided to reduce the retrospection. For the more precise characteristics of some phenomena there have been taken the latest results of surveys (from 2009) conducted by other institutions.
Separate part of the publication contains ranking of powiats reflecting the socio-economic diversity of the voivodship as well as ranking reflecting position of the Mazovia in country in 2008. Moreover, using the EUROSTAT’s database there have been included selected data on European Union countries and regions.
